Manhattan Area Rail Joiners Association

Contact Us

The Manhattan Area Rail Joiners is a train club that has been active in the Manhattan, KS area since 1976. Until recently, the entire focus of the club has been to display a portable train layout in any public place that might be available. We have offered the display in conjunction with many local festivals and have sponsored a show each August in the Manhattan Mall for the last nine years.

We have since decided to expand our base of interests to include programs to promote railroad education and safety and have become a Not For Profit Corporation to pursue those goals.

The Purpose of our organization is the following.

Develop the technical skills of people engaged in the art and craft of model railroading.

Promote fellowship among all model railroaders.

Educate people engaged in model railroading concerning craftsmanship, equipment, and prototype practices.

Advance the hobby of model railroading where and whenever possible.

Educate people about prototype railroading equipment and the practices of real railroads.

Provide a safe environment for all railroading activities.

Preserve the history of the railroads of Riley County.

Provide a reference library by establishing availability of books, magazines, video, or other media relating to the railroad industry.

Procure artifacts to be displayed for public enjoyment at sites already established in the community.

Teach the safe interaction of the general public with the railroad that presently crosses the county and working with the railroad by obtaining available media and presenting these programs to schools and civic clubs.

Assist the Boy Scouts in their pursuit of the Railroad Merit Badge.
