CFNR started off operation on September 27, 1993 with 14 leased GP-15's (ex-CNW) from GATX (now merged with EMD's lease fleet and doing business as Locomotive Leasing Partners) and 4 SD-9's, 2 SD9's #200 and #201 came from the Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range, these units are identifiable by the Nose Bell, the other 2, #202 and 203 were former SP SD-9's, with all painted in the beige/dark green livery. Currently the SD9's are all off the property, and the GP15 fleet has been reduced to 12. In early July 2001. On July 1, 1996 CFNR pulled out as operator of the ex-NWP line from Schellville to Willits and operations were taken over by the public agency, North Coast Railroad which has taken on the name of the original Northwestern Pacific. CFNR headquarters is in Lombard Yard in American Canyon between Napa and Vallejo (aka Napa Junction). CFNR issues Trainorders from Napa Junction via fax, phone and radio. CFNR currently moves over 50,000 cars a year. In September of 2002. California Northern was purchased and is now owned by RailAmerica. Since the demise of the Northwestern Pacific and the advent of RailAmerica, CFNR has added LLPX Lease units to it's roster, these are SW1500 #171, SD40's #6412, and #6413. See Roster Photo pages for further Locomotive dispositions. Also being that the CFNR is now a RailAmerica Operation, at any given time, CFNR power will be moved to other RailAmerica Operations and RailAmerica Power will show up on CFNR tracks.
