Norfolk Southern Launches
New TV Spot
NORFOLK, VA -- Norfolk
Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC) launched its latest television spot this
week with national debuts on the CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, Fox News and Headline
News cable networks.
Combining live-action segments
with computer-generated special effects, "Mission Control" features a Norfolk
Southern locomotive being readied for departure in much the same way a
spacecraft is prepared for take-off and notes that "perhaps the most rem
arkable feature of this system of tomorrow... is that it's here today."
J. Walter Thompson USA advertising
agency of Atlanta produced the 30-second spot, which was filmed on location
at the railroad's Shaffers Crossing facility in Roanoke, Va., and on a
set in Hollywood, Ca. The spot was directed by Mikael Salomon of Flyin
g Tiger Films, Santa Monica, Ca., whose film credits include "Backdraft,"
"The Abyss" and "Far & Away." Miller/Wishengrad/Peacock of Hollywood
edited the spot and R/Greenberg Associates of New York created the visual
effects.
"Mission Control" is Norfolk
Southern's fifth television spot outlining the benefits of safe and efficient
rail service for customers, industrial developers and investors. Norfolk
Southern's 1997 spot, "Point of View," continues to air, reminding viewe
rs of the "spirit of competition" that keeps America's economy moving.
