A Maverick Modelers Digest

A unique, often on the bleeding edge, and way over the deep end of modeling

SSW 7263 started from an Athearn GP40-2. This is the second unit to receive the simulated worn look. I followed David Hussey's terrific article on detailing from the November 1990 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman. In retrospect I would've started with an Athearn GP60 (Incorrect length for a GP60, correct length for the late order GP40-2) and use the radiators from an early production SD40-2. That would put me into the ball park of the late phase GP40-2. Still have to cobble something together for the extended range dynamic brakes but that's pretty well covered in Dave's article.
