The Norfolk Southern Winston-Salem District

Norfolk Southern's Winston-Salem District is one of the most scenic lines in the Southeastern United States. It runs 124 miles from Roanoke, Virginia to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The line handles Coal, Grain, and Auto traffic. While rare, manifest trains can sometimes be seen on the Winston Line. Loaded Coal trains travel south from Roanoke to Belews Creek Steam Station in Belews Creek, NC. Loaded Grain trains travel south to North Winston yard in Winston-Salem, NC where they are interchanged with the Winston-Salem Southbound Railway and the Yadkin Valley Railway. Loaded autoracks also travel south to the Auto Facility in Walkertown, NC to be unloaded.
