The above article from the employee magazine Spanner briefly covers the servicing of a 3100 steam locomotive without much detail as to the work to be done except for the boiler gang. The situation would be similar at John Street or any other roundhouse. It was a time when the CPR was concerned for the image it presented to its passengers and the public in general.
