ABOUT ME

Eric Burris -- creator of RAILNETHi, my name is Eric Burris, the creator of Railnet and my adjacent sites that are all linked.  I'm 23 years old, born in 1979.  I've been a Railfan since 1993 and been loving trains ever since.  I've been highly attracted to the computers at my school, Emporia High School, where I graduated in 1998.  And finally got a computer of my own.  A Compaq Presario 1210 notebook with 150megaherts Pentium, 16 megs of RAM, and a 1.4GB hard drive.  Recenctly in April 2002 I finally got my first desktop computer that is an EMachine T1801 with 800MHz Celeron, 128 MB ram, and a 20 GB hard drive, and i replaced the cheap modem with a U.S. Robotics 56k modem. I wish I could have afforded a much better brand though. I heard many things about E Machine after I bought it. I've been creating web pages since fall of 1997.  I live in Emporia, KS on the  Burlington Northern Santa Fe Emporia subdivision and watched the transition from Santa Fe into BNSF.  My favorite railroad is the BNSF and paint scheme is the Heritage 1 or known unofficially to railfans and railroaders as "pumpkins", like the one I'm on in the picture(on left).  My second favorite railroad is Conrail.  I love the color blue and on CR there's lots of it.   Unfortunately I won't get to make it to Horseshoe Curve anytime soon and now a railroad with a terrible paint scheme, NO COLOR, is going to ride the rails on the Curve, Dark Horse or none other than Norfolk Southern.  UP and NS is my least favorite class 1 railroads.  I love train photography and videography and it's fun to share my pictures with other people on the inernet.  Videos aren't feasible yet.(takes up to much web space and I don't have the stuff to transfer video the my computer.  Right now I'm interested the the Santa Fe through Emporia from the 1950's to the 1970's because there was more activity back then, like passenger trains, more tracks in the yard, etc.  While in school I took many art classes and did many train paintings.  My art teacher said I was his most talented student.  But unfortunely I lost interest in painting.  That's when I got hooked on computers. I was a Cross Country and Track runner at EHS and still like to run once in awhile.  Summer of 2001 I finally got my nerve up to get my first Amatuer Radio and study for my Technician class license and then i passed the test and now I am a real active Ham operator. My callsign is KC0LDT. I have a Yeasu VX150 handheld, a Kenwood TM-261 50wattt mobile and a Uniden BC245xlt Trunktracker handheld scanner, plu a Relm HS200 handheld scanner and various other radios including FRS, CB. Well I think that about covers it for now.
