New Jersey Transit took over from Conrail the operation
of commuter trains out of New York City to New Jersey. NJT started
out with a hodge podge of inherited (and tired) equipment from CNJ, EL,
and PC. NJT continued to operate with hand me down equipment long
after other railroads had stopped operating the likes of E's and GG-1's.
In the early 80's NJT was the last stonghold for such equipment and I took
several trips to NJ to photograph New Jersey Transit.
