serving riders on the Shore Line East, commuter rail service between New Haven and New London, Connecticut Working to continue and expand SLE by maintaining a safe, ontime, inexpensive, and user-friendly commuter rail service. |
The Shore Line East Riders' Association (SLERA) was created during the spring of 1995 when it was proposed that the Shore Line East Commuter Rail Service (SLE) be discontinued. SLERA mobilized riders and other supporters of commuter rail, including legislators, and to everyone's surprise it worked. SLERA mobilized again in 1997 when SLE was threatened. Today we work with the Connecticut Dept. of Transportation (CDOT) and our elected officials to to increase ridership and maintain the tradition of a safe, ontime, inexpensive and user-friendly commuter rail service. SLERA is a loosely knit coalition of commuters, whose purpose is to ensure that SLE continues to operate in the future. Using SLE as a model, our goal is to expand this service in particular and commuter rail service in general throughout the state.
Welcome to the website for SLERA. As you can see we have moved to new
address, which should make it easier for us to update the page more frequently
than in the past. We are no longer mounting the SLE schedules, fare and
ticket information or bus and train connection information at our site.
Instead we will link to the Shore Line East site created and maintained
by Rideworks which does an excellent providing this information. Instead
we will concentrate on providing information concerning our work to improve
and expand SLE service. We plan to provide copies of our newsletter, news
from local papers, lists of elected officials and how to contact them,
data on ridership and ontime performance, etc. We will remain an organization
to contact if you have complaints, compliments, and suggestions regarding
SLE. As in the past we will continue to meet and talk regularly with CDOT
regarding Shore Line East. During the next few weeks will be adding additional
information as well as improve the graphics of this page, so please check
back later.
