Meet Wes Carr

I'm Wes Carr, webmaster of the Southwest Railfan. I'm 36 years old (at the time of this writing in April 2008) and I live in Ft. Worth, Texas in the U.S.A. I have two kids (daughter, age 11 and son, age 7 at the time of this writing). I have been employed by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) as a train dispatcher since October 1995. I'm also an avid rail photographer.

I started the Southwest Shorts website in 2000 with the intention of publicizing the many interesting shortline operations in Texas and the southwest. When I first began using the internet in 1998, I was disappointed to find few resources which provided coverage of shortlines in my area... in particular, the South Orient , which began operating out of my hometown of San Angelo in 1992. Since no one else was putting this stuff on the web, I decided that * I * would.

In 2008, I changed the name of this website to "The Southwest Railfan". In addition to featuring photos and information on shortline railroads, I have also added railfan guides, photo essays, and other material that features much more than just the shortlines.
