Northwestern Oklahoma Railroad

Northwestern Oklahoma Railroad

Based in Woodward, Oklahoma, the Northwestern Oklahoma Railroad operates just 4.8 miles of track, connecting with the BNSF Panhandle Subdivision. Its major customer is a car rebuilding facility located in Woodward.

Even if you've never seen one of their trains, you may recognize their reporting marks (NOKL); the railroad owns a sizeable car fleet and its cars can be found operating on Class Ones, regionals, and other shortlines throughout North America. The railroad's only locomotive is a 65-ton GE center-cab switcher, # 3.

Reportedly, the NOKL conducts its interchange work with the BNSF at Woodward during the morning hours; when I passed through Woodward early on an August 2000 afternoon, nothing was moving... nothing, that is, except for a front-end loader piling scrap ties on a flat car at NOKL's yard.
