  1. ALL ABOARD! Here's a fun day trip that combines two of my passions. Do you like wine tasting but don't want the hassle of driving all the way to wine country? How about a train ride to Santa Barbara?. Amtrak has 4 trains daily that leave from San Diego and go all the way up to Santa Barbara with stops along the way. There is also one train that leaves Los Angeles at 7:30 in the morning. Once up in Santa Barbara have lunch at one of the fantastic restaurants near the train station. After lunch it's time for wine tasting. There are six tasting rooms within a short walking distance of the station, two are right across the street with another two a block farther. For those who don't mind a longer walk there are three other winery/tasting rooms within the city. After wine tasting you can catch an evening train back or have dinner first before heading home. Beware though, the last train home leaves just before 7pm. Check Amtrak's website to get schedule times for a station near you. Also check Santa Barbara Car Free's website for information on enjoying Santa Barbara without the worries of driving. You can even get a discount on your Amtrak ticket on their site. For the wineries checkout the Santa Barbara County Vintners Association website for info on the wineries. The closest tasting rooms are Kalyra (212 State St.) and Giessinger (210 State St.). They're right next door to each other. Walk east on Yanonali St. and you'll come across Oreana Winery and Santa Barbara Winery at the corner of Anacapa St. Walk south on Anacapa St. you'll hit the tasting rooms for Westerly and Kunin (28 Anacapa St.). You could also try one of the wine tour companies if you wanted to check out wineries in the Santa Ynez Valley. You'd be a little more rushed for time but it is doable. Or heck, spend the weekend and really enjoy yourself!
