The Road to Fantasy

The Water Tower Diorama

The Base

For the base of the diorama I choose some discarded pink foam. The original size of the diorama was 22 inches by 13 inches. After laying out the elements of the diorama such as the tower and the track I quickly realized that the size was not going to work. I rummaged around and could not find any larger pieces of foam. I was now forced to add a piece onto the original base piece.

For this I selected a piece that was 14 inches by 13 inches. I glued the two pieces together by running white glue between the pieces. I knew that this would not hold long. I also knew I wanted a portion of the diorama to reflect a rock face. So I got some additional scrap pieces of foam and glued them to bases. I interlocked the pieces over the crack between the two base pieces. I used foam pieces on both side of the track area.

Now I had the basic shape of the diorama. Unfortunately I failed to take any photos of this portion of the diorama construction.
