A dirt road near Parkdale brings you out about 70 feet above the railroad, where a rough trail leads down to track level. The 3:00 p.m. train is being pushed to Parkdale in the narrow Gorge.

From roughly the same spot, the 3:00 p.m. train is returning from Parkdale. Frequent kayak and raft traffic on the Arkansas River keeps the waiting photographer entertained.

The Rio Grande-inspired F-units head into the Royal Gorge, black with late afternoon shadows. Ahead lies a spectacular ride and arrival in Canon City, bringing to close a day on the Canon City & Royal Gorge Railroad.
