City of Los Angeles, 16th Train, 1950
48 seat Coach - 5340
Pullman Standard was the receiver of an order from UP for several 48-seat coach cars in 1941. The cars
were delivered in 1942 and
numbered upwards from 5331. The COLA car #5340 was from the Plan 7468 lot and the #5353 car
from the plan 7471 lot, each of which consisted of 15 cars. The cars of both plans are identical on the
exterior and the only interior difference is a conductor's desk in the first lot and a clothes locker in its
place in the second lot. The locker was later converted to the conductor's desk in all cars. All cars were
delivered in Challenger colors
but did eventually get the Armor Yellow paint for Streamliner service.
COLA 16
The cars in the COLA 16th train were numbers 5340 and 5353.
