Project Coordinator and Webmaster

Here I am standing outside Superliner 32015 in Sacramento, CA, near to the end of my first long-distance train trip (Chicago-Emeryville) by myself!  It was great fun - highly recommended.

So I was sitting here trying to decide what to write in my profile, and I plopped that picture down, and then I decided that I'm going to open with some advice: if you've never taken a long-distance train trip, DO IT.  NOW.  Before Amtrak disappears.  It's an experience that you can't duplicate anywhere else.  My first long-distance trip by myself was on the California Zephyr from Chicago, IL to Emeryville/San Francisco, CA in May, 2004.  The scenery was fantastic, and much of it you can't see via ANY other form of transportation.  Donner Pass is amazing.  The food was fantastic and the dining car staff included some of the friendliest people I've ever had.  And you never know who you'll meet - I met a lady and her two grandsons and ended up spending three meals and a day with them.  Take a cross-country train trip while you still can.  It's an unforgettable experience.

Oh, hi, by the way.  I'm David, webmaster and Project Coordinator of this here website.  I'm a computer science and mathematics major at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL.  What got me involved in this project, you ask?  Well, the direct event was that a friendly lady over at railforum.com was commenting that she couldn't find comprehensive information about an Amtrak station that she was traveling to with her family.  She suggested that there should be a resource for people like her, since Amtrak doesn't have the resources to do it themselves.  She suggested it could be community-run.  So I said, why not?  What's stopping us?  Well, nothing, as it turns out, and the result is what you see here.

So I hope you find it useful.  Questions or comments?  Did you find broken links?  Have anything at all to say?  I'd love to hear it.  Send me an email and I'll get back to you as soon as I can, if you so desire.  Enjoy the site.
