the Winter Outing

That was a marvellous 3546 kilometre long journey. It was covered in 8 days! The beautiful journey has a few surprises in store for me, while bringing back memories from the bygone days! Here is some tid-bids from the journey:

The Journey was covered on board 10 different trains including 4 Mumbai Suburban EMUs, 2 Passenger trains and one Superfast train. I travelled in the extremes of the journey: AC 2 Tier and Unreserved Second Sitting!

Part ONE of the journey was: Dadar to Yeswantpur by 1017 Chalukya Express. The locos for the train were: WDM3A #18858R of Pune (Dadar to Pune) and WDM3A #18933R of Pune (Pune to Yeswantpur). The biggest surprise of the journey was: I was upgraded to AC 2-Tier from my original reservation in AC 3-Tier. The coach I travelled was: WGACCW 00052 based at Dadar. The coach was fresh out of a maintenance schedule! The train does not have a pantry car. The catering is by: Kalyan (Dinner on Day 1), Ghatprabha (Breakfast, Day 2) and Londa (Lunch Day 2). The catering service of Ghatprabha gets 8/10 and Londa gets 8.5/10. The cleanliness of the coach was okay.

Part TWO of the Journey: Bangalore to Coimbatore by 2677 Intercity Express and onwards to Trichur by 611 Kannur Passenger (Coimbatore-Shoranur) and 649 Shoranur-Ernakulam Passenger. The locos for the journey was: Erode WDM3D #11108 (Bangalore to Coimbatore for 2677), Golden Rock WDM2 #16861 (Coimbatore to Kannur for 611) and Erode WAP4 #22390 (Shoranur to Ernakulam for 649). The coaches that I travelled were: WGACCZ 01151 based at Basin Bridge Junction (2677); BGGS 83410 based at Nagercoil (611) and BGGS 91405 based at Shoranur (649). More of this journey in the travelogue

Part THREE of the journey: Trichur to Bangalore by 6322 Trivandrum-Bangalore Express. The loco for this train was Erode WAP4 #22295. The coach was WGACCN 02143 based at Trivandrum. The coach was 'surprisingly' in a very good condition! The train was delayed at Trichur, but before time at Bangalore.

Part FOUR of the journey: Yeswantpur to Dadar by 1018 Chalukya Express. The loco was Pune WDM3A #17910R for the entire length of the journey. The coach was WGACCN 03130 based at Dadar. The coach had the new model moulded toilets. Catering was good. The service is by: Tumkur (Breakfast), Harihar (Lunch) and Ghatprabha (Dinner). The Dinner by Ghatprabha Vegetarian Refreshment room gets 9 on 10. Harihar gets 7 on 10. Overall Catering gets 8 on 10.

In addition to the train journeys, I got the opportunity to travel on a B7RLE Volvo bus operated by Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation.
