UP 4154

UP 4154 pulled into Salt Lake City, UT on 11-20-03 around 7:30pm. When the engineer saw me watching the action nearby, he opened his window and motioned me over. Pointing to the front of his plow he told me that he had hit a cow a bit back as he came across the Great Salt Lake. Hit the poor bugger at 68 mph and kerr splat! Said the dumb SOB exploded and went everywhere. This is just a portion of the leftovers. There was blood, guts, hide, and poop all the way down the front trucks, the fuel tank and other various parts of the loco.  The engineer mentioned that there were actually 2 cows and that both made it off the tracks as he approached, whistle blaring. Then this one decided to get back on the tracks and play a game of chicken. One problem, he's a cow not a chicken! Well, was a cow....

Damage was minimal to the locomotive, though whenever you hit something that weighs 1,000 lbs (engineer estimate of the cow) at 65+ it can't be too pretty (ie the cow).
