The Norfolk Southern Cleveland Line

Norfolk Southern's Cleveland Line runs through my home town of Bedford OH, on its way between Alliance, OH, and the drawbridge over the Cuyahoga River.  It carries a wide range of traffic, including manifest freights, coal, automobiles, TOFC and COFC hotshots, RoadRailers and Amtrak.

An easbound Amtrak barrels through CP Maple, approaching the West Glendale crossing at 50 mph in a snowstorm one afternoon in late December 1999. An eastbound double-stack has just passed CP White in Garfield Heights on a bright winter afternoon. An engine running light east of Motor Yard in Macedonia.
Train NS 547, with Burlington Northern SD70MACs pulling Detroit Edison coal cars, passes above Bedford's Tinker's Creek Park soon after dawn one winter morning. I waited for this train to cross over Willis Rd., but it didn't get there. When I stopped to see where it was, this is what I saw. A colorful string of power is muted by an afternoon snowstorm as it approaches Egbert Road.

A mixed freight approaches the Egbert Rd. overpass in Bedford on a cloudy but snowless winter afternoon.
