Introduction

The Carolina Piedmont Division 13 (CPD13), founded in 1997 is one of the divisions comprising the Mid-Eastern Region (MER) of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA). In turn the MER is one of many Regions in the NMRA, located both inside and outside the USA. The NMRA was founded in 1935, and is the premier model railroading organization in the world. Among its important functions are the setting of Standards and Recommended Practices for model railroad equipment and products that permit the successful interoperation of products from many manufacturers on the model railroads of hobbyists everywhere.

This page provides information about the Carolina Piedmont Division 13. The Carolina Piedmont Division 13 is governed by the bylaws of the National Model Railroad Association, the Mid-Eastern Region and the requirements of the North Carolina General Statutes for non-profit organizations.

Popular Vote Contest Rules

  • Contests will occur at each scheduled monthly meeting of the Carolina Piedmont Division or as directed by the Superintendent. Only Carolina Piedmont Division Members, visiting NMRA, Regional or Division Members may participate.

  • The Contest Coordinator will decide contest ideas, but suggestions will be accepted from the membership. A list of upcoming contest ideas will be periodically published in the newsletter. This is to give ample time to prepare for the upcoming contests and show any changes to the original schedule.

  • There are no restrictions on contest entry items. The only exception is in the "Scenery Items" category. This category requires members to assemble, detail, scratch-build and/or weather any item entered for judging. All other category items may be new, out-of-the-box, kit-bashed, weathered, scratch-built etc. Items may be any scale, HO, N, O, G, Z, narrow gauge, etc. A brief description will be allowed on a 3x5 card. This description card may contain product information (detail parts, building materials etc.), the name of your item (i.e. Thompson Mill) and/or what the item represents (i.e. a northeastern Pennsylvania coal mine). No owner names are to be placed anywhere on the contest ta bel. Models will remain anonymous to the voters. Members may enter up to two (2) items per scale, per contest. In the event there are several models in different scales, the Contest Coordinator may split the votes into scale categories.

  • Contest items will be placed on the designated table. Items are requested to be on display 15 minutes prior to the meeting being called to order. Each contestant will be assigned a number. Each item will have the appropriate contestant's number posted near the item. Every member will be given a ballot slip. Members are to cast their vote and place the ballot slip in the designated container. Only one vote per Member is allowed! Voting will end 15 minutes into the break. This is to give latecomers a chance to participate and vote. Awards will be given out immediately after the program topic or as directed by the Superintendent.

  • A certificate will be awarded to each winner and the results posted in the newsletter. The certificate will have the Division's name, contest category, the individual's name and which winning place earned. Below is an example of a newsletter entry:

    Gondola and Flatcar Loads
First Place: Rick Allen, HO scale, N&W gondola with pipe load.
Second Place: Joel McCurry, N scale, BN flatcar with bulldozer load.

The specific Popular Vote subject for each meeting will be listed in the "Next Division Meeting" section onf the Division's Home page.
