Richard Matthews

Richard was born in Newport News, Virginia in 1966. He is married to Karen, and they have two dogs. A Computer Operator in the Data Center for Blue Cross Blue Shield, Richard has been with BCBS of NC for about four years, working also in Audit as a Reporting Analyst.

Richard has an AAS in Computer Programming from Wake Technical College. With coursework in Automation/Robotics and computer engineering, he is currently a flight student, and should have his private pilot's license in August. Then Richard will begin work on his instrument and commercial ratings.

Richard is a member of the Norfolk & Western Historical Society. He enjoys the Virginian, N&W, C&O, Pennsylvania and the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley railroads. He likes railroad research and history.

He started in trains through his grandfather, who was a conductor with the PRR, and a Tyco train set at the age of seven. Richard has built 2 or 3 layouts with one even having some scenery on it. Although he models in both HO and N scales Richard is currently building an N scale layout based on the Virginian Railway's Guyandotte River Branch.

Richard also very interested in Astronomy.
