possession of the club's Nickel Plate Railroad locomotive plate.
It was mentioned that Metra in Chicago was to order 25 new
gallery bi-level EMD's for the ex IC suburban lines. The Flats
Industrial Railroad has acquired a new locomotive (its second)
#1202, ex-Lake Terminal. Berea Railfans Association is to work
with the City of Berea to establish a trainwatching park. Amtrak

RAILNEWZ BY MARK
Metra placed an order with Nippon Sharyo for 250
gallery cars, with an option for 50 additional later. Final
assembly to be performed at Super Steels Milwaukee plant. These
cars will replace the last of the Rock Island and Chicago
Northwestern non stainless steel cars as well as the oldest
Burlington stainless steel cars. 26 locomotives ordered from
Motive Power Industries of Boise, Idaho will allow retirement of
the F 40C fleet. Amtrak - Acela express for its first three weeks
of operation generated $1.25 million in earned revenue, 44% on
time performance.
HERE AND THERE
Member (and Pres) Bruce Young sold his railroad photos at the
Home and Flower show at the IX center. It was a long grind with a
nine day run and long hours. Also Bruce has been selling his
8x10s on the internet with good results except the Cleveland
stuff doesn't sell. Don't forget the RAILFEST 01 model railroad
show on Saturday and Sunday, March 17th and 18th being held at
Lakeland Community College on State Route 306, just south of
Interstate 90. It will be from 10 AM to 4 PM each day. Cost is
$4.00 with a two day pass for $6.00. Family couples are $6.00 and
Families are $8.00. There will be many model train layouts in O,
HO, Z, N, LGB, TT, S, and live steam display. Also scale model
demonstrations, historical displays and videotapes. PBS TV
Channels 45/459 will be running a show called "Great Steam
Train Tours" on Monday, March 19 at 10 PM and Saturday,
March 24 at 3:30 PM. The producer of this show, Richard Melvin of
Hopewell Productions, works part time as a relief engineer for
the Ohio Central Railroad. It features N&W engine No. 1218,
611 and 765 on their various railfan tours. The February 24th
edition of the Clevland Plain Dealer featured a very good article
describing the future of the old B&O railroad station in the
flats. Six million dollars will be raised over the coming 2 and
one half years to renovate the building into the Cleveland
International Heritage Center. It will celebrate the cultures of
Clevelands immigrants with films, performances, lectures and
other programs. The station was build in 1897. A fire destroyed
the original clock tower which will be restored. Though not in
good shape, there is a tile mosaic floor in the main entry
vestibule which bears the initials C.T. & V.R.R. for the
Cleveland Terminal and Valley Railroad, the predessor of the
B&O. There is still a wrought iron elevator cage in the
stairwell tower and there were still old shipping records for
lost B&O packages and other items. The Lionel company said it
may relocate its entire manufacturing operations to Korea or
China, where 50% of its products are now made. It is currently
negotiating with the employee unions. Most other companys have
their trains made in China. In Carlisle, Ohio a CSX train hit the
rear of a stopped train, killing the engineer, and injuring two
others, one critically. The train had stopped on a main track
near Carlisle to allow another train to pass on a side track. Two
engines and three cars derailed. The engines landed in a
residential backyard.
