Building a diesel "steam" shovel

Bob built this diesel shovel from an old 1:64 scale Aurora kit, some of which can still be bought on ebay or other sites for around $65.00. That's not the price he paid for it. Bob assembled the kit and added the rigging and more detailing. Bob wanted this to be a model of an early diesel shovel as it is shipped right from the factory. Using a manual on how this equipment was actually shipped Bob added the supporting details including the scratchbuilt crate. The car itself is a modified American Flyer flat with weathered basswood strips added for the planking. The photographs were taken by Craig O'Connell on Stan Stokrocki's layout on June 5, 2004.
