Plants On The
DS&RG
Below is a list of the different types of plants
and trees that I have used on the DS&RG.
For each type of plant or tree, I have included
the well known name, the proper name, when
known , and the care it needs, plus a photo.

Trees
 Dwarf Alberta Spruce  -         Photo
evergreen  - to  7-9 ft
full sun - well drained soil - medium water
So far all my Alberta spruce have loved the summer heat
and the cold winters.
 
Ground Covers
~
Stonecrop  - Sedum Spurium   ~  Photo
prennial - 3-6 inches
full sun - any soil - low water 
This is a new plant on the DS&RG, So I have
no info on it's likes and dislikes.

Stonecrop - Sedum Floriferum  -  Photo
Weihenstephaner Gold
prennial - 6 inches
full sun - any soil - low water
This plant may be invasive. But a stong point is
that it will survive to -40º F and take the summer heat.

Anglicum - Sedum     ~   Photo
prennial - 1/2 inch
full sun - any soil - low water
This ground cover is a very nice dark green mat
will make a nice meadows ..
I'm using it as a cover for mountain tops between
shrubs.

full sun - any soil - low water
This plant is very hardy, likes to re-seed itself.
Has small yellow flowers in summer.
I use it as growth on mountains, and in rock work.

Devine Flower - Dianthus simulans - Photo

full sun - sandy loom - low water
This is a small fine leafed plant. Color of gret green, It has
small pink flowers which attract humming birds and Butterflies.
New on the DS&RG.

Phlox subulata - Emerald Blue -  Photo
Creeping phlox

full sun - sandy soil - low water
This is one of the few flowering plants on the
DS&RG
Shrubs
~
Mugo Pine - Pinus Mugo Mughus  ~  Photo
to 4 ft
full sun - any soil - medium water
This small pine is doing very well. You do have to watch
for spider mites. I use Raid Ant and Roach spray.
I use this pine as a divider of one area from another.
Herbs
~
Santolina, grey -         ~  Photo
10 to 16 inches
Full sun - drained soil - medium water
This plant is new on the DS&RG, So I have
no info on it's survival here in the desert.
I'm using it as a fill in a corner.

Santolina, Chamaecyparissus -   Photo
Lavender Cotton
18 to 24 inches
Full sun - rocky soil - medium water
This plant looks the same as the one above.
So I did not put a photo here.

Thyme, English -     ~   Photo
8 to 12 inches
full sun - drained soil - medium water
This is new on the DS&RG, So I have no
data on it's survival in the desert.
I'm using it to break up the line of rock work.
