Two Conrail SD80MAC's await assignment under the Fuel
Rack at Conway Yard (west of Pittsburgh on PA65) on
October 12, 1996. These units will likely be the last new
power for Conrail, as the second order for SD80MACs has
been changed: SD70MAC's for CSX and SD70's to Norfolk
Southern.

Another Conway shot, two Union Pacific units (an SD40-2 and
a C40-8) repose at the engine facility. Foreign units often
venture east to Conway, occasionally these units will continue east
of Conway. Foreign units can lead east of Conway if the train is headed towards
the Mon Line; however, trains headed for the Pittsburgh or Conemaugh lines need a Conrail
lead unit for cab signals.

Later that same day, we stopped in at Rochester, PA
on Conrail's Fort Wayne Line. Rochester is junction of
the Youngstown Line with the Fort Wayne Line. Westbound
RoadRailer 261 passes by behind a pair of GP40-2's.

WPMJ-39 with three GP38-2's passes the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel
plant in Steubenville, OH. Note the three WPS switchers in the background,
the middle unit is scrapped on a flatcar.

Berea Tower is one of the busiest junctions on the
Conrail system. Berea is the center of Conrail's
"Big X", connecting the Chicago Line, the
Cleveland Short Line, and the Indianapolis Line. Trains
from all over the Conrail system travel through Berea,
which is just west of Cleveland Airport. Here, South
Kearny-to-Chicago TV-11 travels west past active Berea
Tower on a windy day in March, 1997.

Witness Conrail TV-1H passing by Berea Tower near
Cleveland, Ohio. TV-1H runs from Harrisburg to Chicago,
supplementing Morrisville (Philadelphia) to Chicago stack
train TV-1. TV-1H was seen on a blustery February 27,
1997.

passes Berea Tower on February 27, 1997. |
Here is a very interesting ELPI-9B at Berea, Ohio
during a cold December 29, 1993. ELPI's consist: ATSF
5836 - CR 5035 - CR 3194 - ATSF 8128 (SD45-2, B36-7,
GP40, C30-7) |
