Conrail's "other OCS" is out on the road currently. Many have asked if we have the schedule for this train, and here it is! The track geometry train is differentiated by the silver roof tops of the passenger equipment and the motive power is almost always Conrail B23-7 1933. The train will operate as follows:
March 9
Altoona to Harrisburg
March 10
Harrisburg to Hagerstown, MD and return
March 11
Enola to Perryville, MD and return (via Enola Branch)
March 12
Harrisburg to Morrisville, PA to Oak Island, NJ
March 13
Oak Island to Port Jervis
March 14
Maintenance at Port Jervis
March 15
Idle Day No trip
March 16
Port Jervis to Gang Mills, NY
March 17
Gang Mills to Niagara Falls, NY
This train often operates behind or ahead of schedule. We will keep the schedule current on the daily updates. - Kevin Burkholder
Reading & Northern will be operating a passenger special also on Tuesday March 11 over their Lehigh Division. The train is being operated for officials of the St. Lawrence & Hudson/ Canadian Pacific Railway, apparently in an effort to show the CPR that the R& N would be a viable route for traffic after the Norfolk Southern acquisition of Conrail. St.L&H plans to route traffic via Harrisburg and establish an interchange with Norfolk Southern in Harrisburg. Scheduled motive power for the special is U23B's 2398 and 2392. -Kevin Burkholder
Reading & Northern has acquired another SD45-2 from Conrail. R&N 6656 was routed to the R&N via Selkirk on March 8. Conrail's SEAL-8 was delivering the 6656 for use on the R&N Lehigh Division. -Kevin Burkholder
CPR will assemble 46 SD90MAC/43's at Ogden Shops in Calgary, Alberta. GMLG has a backlog at the London, Ontario facility, so with the interest in keeping the delivery dates on track for CPR, CPR will assemble the units. This program is similar to that of Conrail, where Juniata Backshop assembled the SD80MAC order in Altoona, PA, and is currently assembling the SD70MAC order. -Kevin Burkholder
Conrail is putting the finishing touches on the 4130, while work continues on 4131, 4132, 4133, 4134, 4135, 4136, and now 4137. The 4137 just entered the shop, and construction has begun from the frame up. These kits are shipped in various forms, with cab assemblies and carbody assemblies arriving by rail and truck at Altoona. These units, numbered 4130-4144 will become the property of CSXT after the acquisition of Conrail is complete. -Kevin Burkholder
