EASTERN RAILROAD NEWS
|
Conrail is launching a "tour" of much of the system today for the Engineering Department. The train departs Altoona, PA tonight and travels east to Abrams, PA. From Abrams, the train conducts a whirlwind tour as far west as Elkhart, IN and Dearborn, MI. The schedules for the OCS are available on the East Penn schedules page. -Kevin Burkholder
NYSW SD70M ON CONRAIL
New York Susquehanna & Western SD70M 4050 is currently operating on Conrail. The unit was routed south out of Buffalo on Friday, arriving enola on ML-420. Next assignment was on the HBBE-1X travelling to Allentown. Assignment on NSAL-1 took the unit south to Hagerstown, MD where it was sent south on the Norfolk Southern. The unit is paying back horsepower hours to the NS. - Kevin Burkholder
MAC-TRACK
Conrail began road testing
SD70MAC's 4130 and 4131 between Altoona and Cresson, PA today. The
units are not equipped with cab signals and were "sandwiched" between a
Conrail GP38-2 and SD40-2 but were on-line for testing. Apparently
the units were designed to CSX specifications and are not going to be equipped
with cab signals. The units should be released for service shortly.

Since the CP Rail takeover
of the Delaware & Hudson, the D&H GP38-2 fleet has remained on
home rails. Sam Botts has provided us with a look at the current
fleet and their assignments. The "Marks" column is the reporting
marks that are shown in the computer. Several of the "D&H" units
wear the classic lightning stripe paint-scheme. The CP units wear
some form of CP Rail System paint and the St.L&H units wear the St.
Lawrence & Hudson logo. -Sam Botts
