The first Conrail (Norfolk Southern) SD70 2557 is currently under construction at Altoona. This is the first of the units being built to the Norfolk Southern specifications. 2558 and 2559 should be entering the shop in the next week to ten days.
The next pair of SD70MAC's scheduled to be released from Altoona this weekend, were the 4140 and 4141. The 4140 was road tested on May 7 and is awaiting the release of the 4141. The remainder of the fleet lines up as follows:

OCS TO BE OUT AGAIN THIS WEEK
Conail's Operation Lifesaver program will be on the road this week in Indiana and Ohio. On May 12, the OCS will be operating a round trip out of Alliance, OH to Crestline, OH. Intermediate stops will be Loudon, Wooster, and Canton, OH. On May 13, the Operation Lifesaver program will be operated between Indianapolis, Jamestown, Linden, and Laffayette, IN. We will be posting complete schedules tomorrow for these trips. -Kevin Burkholder
NS TRACK GEOMETRY TRAIN
On June 9, the Norfolk Southern Track Geometry train will depart Hagerstown, MD for operations to Harrisburg, PA and south to Perryville, MD. The NS train will operate on a whirlwind tour of "their" half of the proposed acquisition property. We will also bring you the full NS Track Geometry Train schedule tomorrow. -Kevin Burkholder
SANTA FE IN THE EAST
Several BNSF units continue to ply Conrail in the east. TV-78 was by CP-Adrian, NY at 16:25 ET with ATSF B40-8W 545, GP60 4035 (not 4031 as reported elsewhere), and GP50 3850. PIOI-0 was departing Conway, PA at 15:30 ET with Conrail SD40-2 6488, ATSF B40-8W 566, ATSF B40-8 7442, and GP60B 339. The PIOI-0 power was the power off of OIEL-7 and is now returning east. BUEL-0 was by CP-234, OH at 16:27 ET with brand-new C44-9W's 4754 and 4755. Also of interesting note is TV-12 which reported by Conpit at 15:23 ET with Conrail GP40-2 3325, SD50 6762 and CNW C41-8 8520. - Kevin Burkholder

ABC Rail Products Corporation
(ABCR) today announced the completion of the purchase of the assets of
Railway Systems Support
which will become part of ABC Rail Products' Systems Division headquartered
in Verona, Wisconsin. Railway Systems Support is located in Springtown,
PA, and specializes in the integration
and implementation of
complex railroad and transit control systems, primarily in the eastern
United States.
"This is our third acquisition within the past year, and it helps round out the systems capability we can now offer customers," said Steve Yoder, president of American Systems Technologies and general manager of ABC Rail Products' Systems Division. Mike O'Keefe, founder of Railway Systems Support, will remain with the organization as vice president, northeast region for American Systems Technologies. Before starting his own company, O'Keefe spent twenty-two years with Conrail where he was manager of construction, communications & signal.
Railway Systems Support established its business by helping customers accomplish difficult projects requiring the highest level of field expertise. Its capabilities will assist and complement the other organizations within ABC Rail Products' Systems Division in completing larger and more complex integrated turnkey projects, according to Yoder.
ABC Rail Products is a leader in the engineering, manufacturing, and marketing of replacement products and original equipment for the freight railroad and rail transit industries. The company's products include specialty trackwork, such as rail crossings and switches; mechanical products, such as rail car, locomotive and idler wheels, mounted wheel sets and metal brake shoes; classification yard products and automation systems; and signal system design, installation and maintenance services.
