SEPTEMBER PROGRAM AT TOSCA'S:
Patricia Kiddney delivered an interesting lecture on the "Drummer's Special Trains" running in and out of the El Paso Union Station. She provided detailed schedules and descriptions of the El Paso & Southwestern line to several primary service areas of Southern Arizona. Her presentation explained how and why El Paso had become a great commercial hub at the end of the 19 Century. Everyone present enjoyed the program.
S P LOCOMOTIVE No. 3420 PARTY AND BUSINESS MEETING:
Three organizations joined together to celebrate the 110th Anniversary of the Erection of our El Paso Treasure. The Chapter authorized the payment for supplies used in the presentation and serving of the Birthday Cake. Payment was not needed when Juan & Zelda Rocha agreed to pay for the materials. Juan Rocha is the Vice President of the (El Paso-Unit 37) of the National Association of Retired & Veteran Railroad Employees (NARVRE) and serves on the Museum Board. Zelda Rocha, arranged for the cake to be baked and delivered to the Museum. The NARVRE Chapter paid for The cake and the Railroad Museum paid for the International Museum Gallery use with a donation from Dr. Richard Worthington, Museum Chairman of the Board.
STREETCAR EXHIBIT AT THE DOWNTOWN PASO PUBLIC LIBRARY:
The exhibit will close on Thrsday October 6th and reopen in November.
FT. BAYARD HISTORY DAYS: Sept. 16 and 17th
Three El Paso reenactors took history to Ft. Bayard in the foothills of the Gila Wilderness near Silver City, NM. Patricia Kiddney, the "Victorian Lady" set up a display on Concordia Cemetery of El Paso, and answered questions about the Harvey Girls of New Mexico. Becky went as a "Pioneer Woman" and Prince McKenzie as an 1880s Infantry Captain. They presented an Army Ordnance display on the Evolution of the Military Revolver and its adaptation for civilian use by railroaders along with repeating rifles. The display also included sample tools, equipment, and accutrements used by Engineers and Trainmen along the S P, the A T & S F, and the E P & S W lines in Southern N M.
Along with several historic lectures presented during the event was an update on the historic preservation future of Ft. Bayard by the Mayor of the Grant County town of Santa Clara. In the next legislative session in Santa Fe, Santa Clara will be requesting management of the restoration of Ft. Bayard. The Mayor is also interested in the preservation and development of the historic A T & S F train stations of Bayard (town) and Hurley.
FT. SELDEN FRONTIER DAY: Saturday Oct. 8th, 8 a m to 4:30 p m.
See living Military History and Frontier Life demonstrations along the A T & S F Line from 1869. The Railroad Museum Team will describe transportation , display tools, equipment and and accutrements of the S F, S P, and E P & S W lines of southern N M. Location is 13 miles north of Las Cruces off

ELEPHANT BUTTE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION: Oct. 12 -23
The Dam was constructed for the Bureau of Reclamation in 1911, and was completed in 1916. At the time it was the largest irrigation project in
the U. S. and the second largest dam in the world. Construction of this historic engineering landmark was only possible because of the nearby connection to the A T & S F RR and the El Paso cement plant. A highlight of the Centennial Celebration is "Old Elephant Butte Days" of Living history, running from Oct. 14 - 16.
