CALGARY TRANSIT
1980/81 Siemens/Duwag U2 #2001-2027
Calgary chose the Siemens/ Duwag U2 as the LRV for Calgary's new LRT system. This proven design had been used in Germany, and more recently and closer in Edmonton. These cars, like the Edmonton U2's, were designed for high loading platforms, as opposed to the street level loading U2 LRV's that San Diego got. 27 cars, #2001-2027, were order and delivered in 1980 though 1981. The Calgary LRT system started operation in May 1981.
