New York City Trip

From November 16th to November 19th 2005, 50 Centre Wellington District High School kids in an art course got to go to NYC. I was one of the selected few. The itenerary for the 3 day trip was to leave Fergus at 0630 and get into out hotel in downtown Manhattan by 19:30. We ended up getting there at 20:00. Our hotel, "The New Yorker" was right across from Penn Station and not far from "Madison Square Gardens", the home of the Rangers and Knicks. When we got there we toured around Times Square and saw some other interesting NYC buildings in the pouring rain until we got to the Empire State Building. We then went up the Empire State Building and got to see what NYC looked like at night from one of the highest buildings in New York. If there are any fans of Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle out there they will enjoy this. On your way back we got to taste Whitecastle burgers. Lets just say there are more calories in their little burgers then in Big Mac's! Day two say a 5 minute stop at Grand Central Station and Central Park were the highlights of the day! Our final day saw the group spilt in two.Either go see fashion stuff, or go see a martial arts munk. I went and saw the munk! When we got there he wasn't around so we ended up jumping on the subway to get to Times Square and were one of the first few to see Harry Potter 4. We ended up seeing the munk later that night before we left. The other highlight was going to Ground Zero. Although it was for only 15 mins I took in a lot, trying to imagine two buildings standing in the block that I stood in front of, where now a big gapping hole was. I looked up at the "big black building" which was very tall and where in pictures of the 9/11 attacks, it was half the size of the two structures. We walked over to view the Statue of Liberty through Battery Park, where an interesting art piece that stood in the WTC when it collapsed now sits in battery park, on display. I ended the photographing day with shots of the Statue of Liberty against an orange sky.
