In 1980, a rebuild program began to upgrade all SW1200RS units to SW1200RSu's in the 1200 series. 1206-1236 were assigned to ex 8100-8130, 1237-1276 to 8131-8171 (less previously retired 8148). Nine units were re# from 1276 downwards which remained as roadswitchers. The project was terminated in 1986 after only 33 units were done. | ||||||

Units 1208, 1268 and 1276 had a rare paint variation: action red with no multimark, "CP Rail" on hood,white frame stripe, no end stripes. It is believed these were the only SW1200RS's painted this way. | ||||||

Eight units assigned numbers 1280-1287 acquired October 1999 (delivered December 1999) on long-term lease from Connell Leasing. All were rebuilt from EMD SW9's except UP-1231 which was originally an SW7. Renumbering order as yet undetermined. | ||||||

Dispositions: 1204 converted to Hump Control Cab 1151 in 1999; 1214 converted to Hump Control Cab 1150 in 1999; 1242,1243 sold to Louis Dreyfus in 1998; 1274 sold to A.Merrilees (D) in 1998; 1280-1287 all sold to NRE (2005-05); 1298, 1299 returned to Omnitrax 2002-08. |
