Scrabble Challenge Tournament #4 (Div.2) Rules |
Please read the rules carefully.
If you don't feel 100% comfortable
abiding fully, please do not join this tournament !
1. Have fun !!
2. There are no prizes, only bragging rights !!
3. Play will begin on or about (note revised date) October 18th (sooner if the board fills
up, later if the need to find additional players becomes evident).
3a. This tournament has a slightly different format than previously used and
features two divisions (a result of comments offered after the first three tournaments).
Here In Division 2 will be a maximum of 16 players by invitation (but there will
likely be fewer than 16 players).
4. Each participant plays two e-mail games against all other participants, a total of no
more than thirty (30) games, in a double-round-robin format. In round one, players
will send a game to each player whose name appears below their own
on the scoresheet. In round two, each player will send a game to each player whose
name appears above their own on the scoresheet. Please
absorb this one folks.
5. All player's e-mail addresses are clickable links on the result
board. All players are responsible to set up their own games. Please use the
names exactly as shown on the scorecard, with a 4- prefix. This will separate tournament
games from other games you may have going on. For instance, I am '4-Bill', Karen is
'4-Karen' etc.
6. Should a situation arise where one player has no CD, their opponent must start all
games but are encouraged in the spirit of sportsmanship to pass the first turn where
applicable.
7. After each game, BOTH players must
immediately report the final score. No results will be updated until both reports
are received. We need to see a little improvement in the timeliness of these reports so
please forward them as soon as the game finishes. Game results are to be sent
to bmiller@mgl.ca. The
format for reporting is simply <name> <score> vs <name> <score> in
the subject line of your e-mail message.
There is no need to put "Winner" or "Loser" in the subject line since
I'm pretty sure I can do the math. Also please do not use the 4-prefix
when reporting games. This makes tabulating results so much easier !!
8. Keep track of your games using the scorecard (available when the board is
complete):
*scorecard*
Unfortunately, some players in the past have not seen the need to print out and use
these cards and subsequently have lost track of how many games they have completed or have
in progress at a given time. This step is MANDATORY
and if you don't have the time to keep track of your games, please exit now because I
don't either.
9. No dictionaries or word lists. This is based on the honour system.
Only you will know what you have really won or lost..
10. All players are generally expected to play at least one move
per game per day. Please only have one game going with any one opponent at a time.
Finish game one before starting game two. You may play multiple games across the
player list concurrently however, and it is advisable to do so to speed things up.
11. No quitters. Each game must be completed (using the "surrendering" option is
not permitted). If you do not complete the tournament, you will not be invited to
play again. Should we have any problems here mid-tournament (which we won't), any
games that a "victim" player may not be able to play will be credited as a
win/+50pts (as per NSA standards).
12. If you are not a member of the Scrabble list, please visit "http://egroups.com/group/Scrabble" and
join so we can all discuss games/plays etc etc as a group.
Questions and comments should be sent to the tournament director.
Winners:
The order of finish will be based strictly on National Scrabble Association
standards. The player with the greatest number of wins will finish first, etc etc. Where
players finish with the same number of wins, the cummulative point differential will
determine the finishing order. (Therefore, even when losing a game, it is important to
score as high as possible.) A tie game counts at 1/2 win, 1/2 loss.
