Butler, In is the busy crossing
of the ex Conrail nee New York Central Norfolk Southern Chicago Line and
Norfolk Southern's ex Wabash Detroit-Decatur line. During a 24 hour
period it may be possible to see well over 100 trains.
6 Amtrak trains will soon
pass through Butler daily, all on the Chicago Line, the Lake Shore Limited
passes through in mid-morning westbound, the Westbound Capital limited
passes though in the early morning Westbound, and the Pennsylvanian passes
through at about the same time as the Lake Shore in the morning.
A good spot to sit is in the drive behind Laredo Lanes on the east side
of town on US 6. The crossing is right there. Conrail trains
have access to the steel mills west of town on NS and take the switch across
the tracks from Laredo Lanes. West of town is a McDonalds and Subway
along with some gas stations. Butler is located between Bryan, Oh
and Waterloo, In on US 6, In extreme Northeastern, In. Stop by and
you won't be dissapointed. Do some driving around and you will be
able to find some other prime locations within a couple of miles of town.
Scanner frequencies are 100.800 MhZ for the ex NYC and 161.440 for The
ex Wabash.
