MARS LIGHT INFORMATION
I have a portable Mars model SBRE-100, serial #839, that I believe came from the NKP
(probably in caboose service).
It is a 12" cubic aluminum housing with a single 7", 12 volt, 200 watt GE clear
locomotive bulb and a red glass lens.
The "figure 8" drive is via 2 separate linkages connected to the metal ring that holds the movable
sealed beam in place. The unit has 2 push switches cast into the housing marked "STOP" and "START".
Can you point me in a direction where I could find out more
about this model (production dates, wiring and mechanical diagrams, suggested applications,
availability of parts, known users, etc.)? Any idea of a value range?
20585 RED LENS LOCATION IN D&H
The photos and illustrations of D&H U23B locomotives show the red lens of the 20585 Gyralite to be
located on the LEFT - as one faces the locomotive (horizontal mount in nose with hinge at top).
The D&H U33C mountings illustrate the red lens on the RIGHT.
This seems to be the convention.
Any information for the consistent LEFT mounting of the red lens on the D&H U23B's would be appreciated.
20585 RED LENS LOCATION IN GE LOCOMOTIVES
Volume II of Centennial Treasury of General Electric Locomotives shows the
following relationships of the 20585 Gyralite's Red lens relative to observer facing locomotive:
There does not seem to be a pattern! It also shows Santa Fe U30CG #401 1967
with Red on top!
Would you happen to know if GE installed the Red lenses? Was the installation intended to
be random?
