Super Dome Tour

and here we are at the end of the tour. To the left are the stairs to the dome and above is the massive and beautiful curved glass.
A couple facts about the super dome:-They were the first PS cars to have curved glass.
-21 panes of curved glass were used on each side, 42 curved panes for the whole length of the dome, and 6 panes of glass for the ends. That is a grand total of 48 panes of glass, 625 Sq. Feet.
-they were built in 1952.
-they were the first full domes in america.
-today 9/10 super domes are still in existance, only super dome 54 was scrapped.
-The super domes were the heaviest cars ever built, weighing in at 112 tons.(224,000 pounds).
-Because of the sunken floor design and the weight, the cars required specially designed 6 wheel trucks which featured full coil suspension.
The dark shaded area represents the area of the car shown in the photo.
