Model Railroading Tips |
My layout has a hidden reverse loop (a reverse loop is when the track folds back into itself so that the train can return back where it came from). The reverse loop has little access unless I crawl underneath the layout, but there is a section that is covered by a small mountain feature that makes that portion of it inaccessible if it wasn't for the fact that the mountain itself is removable. What I basically did was to first create the mountain using wire-mesh and Woodland Scenics plaster cloth (several layers to make it strong), and I added a strong fabric border which I then covered with glue and then with ground foam and lichen covering to simulate bushes. The majority of the seam is right against the track so having the "bushes" helps to hide the seam. The other side not next to the track was later hidden the same way with the cloth and ground foam and lichen. The only difference was that I made the bush line a little wider. Once complete, the seams became undetectable. Below is a copy of the article and some pictures of how I went about the project. |
