How to sell on ebay.
Hi. I not unhappy, but I was a little disappointed. I'm sure you didn't understand the hobby and I
don't blame you for it. Having the trailers glued to the flat car is kind of like having your Barbie doll
glued to the seat of her Barbie car. Actually it's more like Barbie has one set of clothes and they are
glued to her. Anyway, I used an exacto knife and was able to remove the trailers with a minimum
amount of damage. I got over it now so don't worry about it. I'll keep it, in fact I'll improve it until
it's better than new.
I tell anyone who asks me about selling on the internet to be an expert in what you sell if you want
to be successful.
I think you should still keep selling the model railroad items. We love them if they are new or used.
Here is some advice to make you an instant expert. First concerning this and similar items: There are
freight cars and there are car loads. They are two separate items and should be removable. It is
good to sell them together. It's like a car plus an accessory.
This hobby is a model building hobby and it's also a collecting hobby. You need to think of it as
being similar to collecting coins, or stamps, or jewelry. These are scale models, not toys, so the details matter! They should be rated as New in Box, Mint,
good, etc. There are certain characteristics of every item which people look for. You should state
all of these: Scale, manufacturer, item number, and item description.
The item description should give as much of the following information as possible: Name of railroad, scale length (40', 50' etc.), type of car (box car, tanker etc.), car number (printed on side of car). If it is a box car state if it has or doesn't have a roof walk.
Other important things to state: If the car has metal wheels (not the axles but the actual wheels) or
metal couplers, made by Kadee, a.k.a. KD couplers.
State if the car has a custom paint job. There is a technique known as weathering where
cars are painted to look rusty and used. This is good if it looks realistic.
Also state any broken steps (very common) or other broken or damaged parts, scratches or other flaws.
If you sell locomotives know that not all model locomotives have engines inside. Some are known
as dummy locomotives. These do not have engines and just go along for the ride behind a powered locomotive. You should test all locomotives or state that they have not been tested.
Go to my website and look around and learn more about this great hobby, which is really several
hobbies combined into one. I recommend you read the page about rolling stock.
I hope this helps.
