East Kent is a strange place, but strange in a good way. The East Kent coast is home to the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway (RH&DR) - an awsome 13.5 mile main line in minature. Built to 1/3 scale, a trip along the line is easily more exciting than riding any of Kent's other main lines today, especially when enjoyed in a group from the privacy of bar car 'Gladys'.
I was lucky enough to participate in such a trip and was really struck by how much it feels like making a 'proper journey' riding down to Dungeness on the RH&DR. The length of the line and the changing landscape makes one feel like you have really travelled somewhere on the train, rather than just ambled through the countryside as most preserved railways tend to do. Definitely worth making the journey for.
