The North Shore Line, and predecessor Chicago and Milwaukee Electric, operated streetcar service in downtown Waukegan and Milwaukee. These cars were generally smaller, lighter, and slower than the heavy interurban cars that operated on mainline trackage between cities. In the case of the North Shore, there was even a seperate fare structure. Streetcars, and later buses, required special tokens, as opposed to the standard tickets on mainline trains. For maps of the former streetcar lines, view the map section of this website.
