Line cars are used by crews to maintain the overhead power wires on electric railroads. These cars typically feature movable platforms for reaching the wires. Since the platforms on top are insulated from ground, crews can safely work on energized wires overhead. This means the car can quickly move if another train approaches. This car was built by the railroad itself in its own shops. It featured a movable derrick and a posthole digger for setting poles. This car was aquired by IRM, and is still used to maintain the wires at the museum making it a valuable piece of equipment.
