Seats on the 749, part 2
This is what it looks like when you first lift the fabric off. This is
the cotton stuffing.
Here I am lifting up the cotton stuffing. You can see the canvas underneath that.
These previous two photos show the corner detail in the top corners. The fabric is folded
partially over itself, then stiched.
This shows how the seats are sandwhiched together. At the center is the wood, where you can see
the tack marks from where the tacks were. The next brown pieces on either side are
similar to cardboard. There are steel springs between these and the wood. Then there is the
horsehair, and then the cotton stuffing. The layers are not permanently attached to each other,
but stick tight from 40+ years of having the fabric stretched tightly over them. The image
below is the same thing, but you can see the springs.
