| Remarks: Four-cylinder Double Fairlie type. Introduced for working sections of line with steep grades and sharp curves. They were originally built for service in Otago, but were allocated to the Wanganui section, where there were ruling grades of 1 in 35 and curves of 5 chains. Like their predecessors, they suffered mechanical ailments which stemmed from the peculiarities of the design. The steam bogies proved an endless worry because of the difficulty of keeping the flexible steam pipes thoroughly tight.
