Remarks:     The Mountain Rimu Timber Co. of Mamaku, near Rotorua, was aquired by the NZR Stores Branch in 1915 and took over operation of this Class D Johnston 16-wheeler. Similar to the Price 16-wheeler, it had a vertical two-cylinder engine in the cab driving through spur reduction gears to a line shaft, which in turn drove all eight axles via skew bevel gears. This loco was very rough riding, so the NZR converted it to an eight-wheeler, using two tender bogies from a scrapped NZR locomotive. This cured the problem without affecting the load hauling capacity. In use until 1953, it was derelict by 1956 and may have been scrapped soon after.
