Campbell Soup Company

Founded 1869 by Joseph A. Campbell of New Jersey. Campbell's as it is commonly known, grew to be
one the largest makers of canned soup and related food products being sold in 120 countries around the world.

Advertisement 1957. Price of a can of soup was 10 cents!

The only plant in Canada was built in 1931 at 60 Birmingham Street New Toronto in a large industrial area next to CNR's Mimico Yard served by both CNR and CPR. This current aerial view shows the extent of the property. Birmingham Street at bottom, New Toronto Street at top just south of Mimico yard. Dwight Avenue at right and Third Street at left.

January 2018 Campbell announced winding down and closure of the plant as being "no long viable". Soup would then come from three plants in USA. 380 jobs will be lost.
