Texas declared its independence from Mexico (and Spain),
March 2, 1836.
The Republic of Texas was annexed into the United States
of America March 1, 1845.
War was declared against Mexico May 11, 1846.
It was settled February 2, 1848 by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo,
setting the boundary as the Rio Grande River as at present.
Texas claimed a large amount of land which was settled by the Compromise
of 1850
whereby about 1/3 was bought by the USA for $10 million, resulting in current
borders.
