Lethbridge Viaduct

Summary: Old line built 1897-1898 included 20 bridges totalling 2.8 miles in length! It had a grade of 1.2%.
New line opened in 1909 was 5 1/4 miles shorter and had a grade of only .4%. and 37 fewer curves. The Lethbridge Viaduct over the Belly River was a little over one mile long at 5,327.6 feet long. A second viaduct over the Old Man River was 1,900 feet long. It required 900 cars of material including 12,200 tons of steel and including the new line cost close to $5 Million! Close to $120 Million today!
