Welcome and thank you for
stopping by! This website chronicles ninety-five years of history
along the rails of the Rahway Valley
Railroad (RVRR). Here you will find a story of a great
little railroad like no other! From 1897 to 1992 this proud short line
served the growing towns of Roselle Park, Kenilworth, Union, Springfield,
Summit, and Maplewood in Central New Jersey.
Despite being only 15.28 miles in length (including the main line, branches, and sidings) the RVRR served a multitude of customers, from stone quarries to pharmaceutical companies, and connected three railroads, the Jersey Central, the Lehigh Valley, and the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western. What the railroad lacked in length it more than made up for in character and charm. From the grand schemes of the New Orange Industrial Association, to the eccentric Louis Keller and his "golf railroad," then to the three generations of the Clark family, the Rahway Valley saw many colorful characters, ups and downs, and light hearted humor along the way. This website is an attempt to chronicle
the many years of history along the rails of the Rahway Valley Railroad .
. . I sincerely hope you enjoy your stay! |
