Grade Crossing: S. Michigan Ave.

The Rahway Valley Railroad mainline crossed S. Michigan Ave. (MP 0.89) in Kenilworth. When the New York & New Orange Railroad originally constructed through here, Michigan Avenue was not yet in existance. If you were travelling, by horse and wagon, in those days you would have taken Faitoute Avenue between Aldene (a part of Roselle Park) and New Orange (later Kenilworth). Michigan Avenue was put through to the Boulevard in c.1903 and a grade crossing was put in place here.

In the early years of the NY&NO there was a flagstop at the Faitoute Avenue grade crossing. Once Michigan Avenue was constructed the flagstop at Faitoute Ave. was switched to Michigan Avenue. This flagstop is mentioned on most passenger schedules between 1903 and 1922.

The Rahway River Branch made another crossing of N. Michigan Avenue on the north side of the Boulevard
