2677 / 2678 extended
to Ernakulam Junction
Coimbatore Intercity now to travel up to Ernakulam
Finally a Daily Day train into Gods own
country from the Silicon Valley of India. People across the regions are
waiting with bated for the dawn of June 04, 2007 ( expected date).
Unconfirmed
updates from sources within the railways and hordes of Indian rail fans
who meticulously spend their days researching developments in the Indian
Railways have now been reporting that the 2677/ 78 trains from Bangalore
to Coimbatore have been extended up to Ernakulam.
Daytime Travel
option
With the existing daily train Kanyakumari Exp, the only
option was to travel in the night, but now a morning option will be
available as well. Looking back there are many times when an emergency
cropped up during the night, well after the 10 PM, but sill one had to
wait until next night to board a train. After-all night journeys aren't
bad, but for those traveling on a holiday or for relaxation, nothing
compares to the beautiful scenes and sounds one can experience sitting
in a day train.
Independence from
Kanyakumari
With the announcement expected soon, thousands of
passengers will heave a sigh of relief. These passengers have long
depended on the sole & over-burdened Kanyakumari Express, popularly
called as Island Express. Many have for years, since the burgeoning
Malayali population exploded into Bangalore, endured the ridiculously
long queues, and the punishing journey. However in the recent past there
have been more options with the introduction of seasonal and special
trains. But the fact remains that for most Malayalees, Kanyakumari was
and is the cornerstone of their journey and that wont change completely
although.
Bus Services to take a
hit
The Bus gang that operates from every nook and corner of
Kerala and Bangalore ruled the roost and called the shots for a long
time, or that is what the popular theory is for the lack of introduction
of trains plying these destinations. One cannot despise this theory, or
how will one explain the crores that flow in and out of these operators
monthly? Extension of this train may help the situation, but is far from
a solution. We need more trains to make this travel an easy and
pleasurable one, but till that day, one can breathe a little easy
knowing that they now have an option. Least, one may be consoled that
the bus mafia is hit, at-least a little.
